June 13th: Erzerum to Sivas
The day started with a few friends rejoining us on the rally. Our friends Ali and Alican had arrived late the night before, catching up from Baku where they had some valve issues. Carl and his father Jan also made it to the hotel after they’re Ford De Luxe had broken down earlier. The only ones missing from our entourage were Tim and Floriane, who are currently getting towed to Ankara. We continued along the smooth rolling hills of east Türkiye towards our first regularity. After we raced along the cobbled hillside road, we learned that this route had been part of the actual silk road. After another great regularity and a long highway drive we arrived in our hotel on the outskirts of Sivas. We had enough energy to get some outstanding issues fixed on the car. The brakes have been a little loose lately so we adjusted the rear left drum, and the dampers haven’t really been doing all that much damping. We filled the front two dampers with some of our engine oil so they should function better. We’ll test them out tomorrow on the way to Ankara.
