June 20th: San Marino to Genova
We had had a race planned today on a course in San Marino but due to the rain it was cancelled. So instead of the circuit we made our way across winding, lush mountain roads to the checkpoints. We stopped at this remote restaurant with Tim, Floriane, Michael and Jonas to enjoy some pasta and tiramisu.
The porcini ravioli was amazing. The rest of the day was winding and difficult. They were fun roads to drive but we have no power steering and the sharp turns make your shoulders and chest sore after a few hours. When we arrived in Genova, Jean invited us out to dinner nearby with the rest of the vintage (pre 1935) teams. We met a few people we hadn’t spoken to yet, all of them lovely. It’s funny with this race you most often only meet the teams that around your placement. We are in the upper middle so we don’t ever meet any of the lower teams. After tonight though I’m sure we’ve met every competitor at least once.
