June 21st: Genova to Aix-les-Bains
The morning was humid and hot as we made our way west to the base of the Italian alps. On our way we stopped at a go-kart track for a test. Just after the first turn my dad lost traction and we spun a full 360 degrees to return straight onto the rest of the course. We continued racing along but took it easy since the wet roads were not holding onto our tires. Our regularity brought us to the top of the Col Agnel, a 2700m tall mountain pass which was covered in a thick fog and very cold. It was so bad we could barely see the marshalls 10 ft in front of us as we stopped. On the descent from the mountain we popped into a small village bakery to get sandwiches for lunch.
We continued on the highways as it poured rain and we made our way closer to Aix-les-bains. Just as I was taking a flyover to exit the freeway, our wheels lost traction and we spun sideways up the ramp and smashed our front-end into the concrete barrier.
Thankfully no serious damage, only the bumper and the headlight were broken but it was an unnerving moment. In the city we met my dads friend Giles and his son Guilhem for dinner. I had tartare and my dad had Reblochon and charcuterie. After dinner Guilhem, a few friends and I went to a party in the city streets where there was a dj set.
Very cool to see free music and all the people in the city celebrating the solstice. We danced for a while but left before the set ended.
