June 4th: Kyzl-Orda to Akespe

The day started with a morning DJ set in the breakfast hall. Marc got up and danced with the wait staff while we enjoyed our meals. We were one of the last teams to leave for the MTC near the outskirts of town. While parked at a gas station there, I almost got run over by a car driving way too quickly into the pump area. The day was mostly transit with short breaks in small towns as we entered the Aral Sea basin. We stopped in the aptly named town of Aral for gas and met some children who were interested in the Cambridge. The road on the way to the camp was so bumpy it must’ve knocked a knocked a wire loom loose as we found our horn was now stuck on. With every pothole we hit after it would toggle off and on again. We disconnected the interior switch for it to no use but eventually it seemed to settle into it’s off state thankfully. We arrived to a bleak campsite but with some camels in the distance. We went to bed early to prepare for another day of camping the next night.
