May 21st: Ordos to Olon Bulag

May 21st: Ordos to Olon Bulag

A welcome break in intensity for the day. Nothing much to report on the road other than that we made our way into the Gobi Desert today and into the dunes of our camp site. Some police officers invited Alican and I inside the enjoy some melon with them.

Everyone we’ve met so far in China has been extremely generous. Hopefully we’ve reciprocated that. Later that night, as we popped open our pop-up tent, the plastic rods inside snapped and left us with a sad looking sleeping quarters.

The campsites here come with a bar that also provides shade from the desert sun. The site we chose to place our tent happened to be down wind of the sewage truck and close to the loud generator that powers is. That and the tent made for a terrible nights sleep. Hopefully a better day tomorrow.
